Sleep? What’s That?
The support and votes I’ve received in my recent designs, including a couple of prints, have been very encouraging. I’m focusing in a more artistic style lately and it’s been working very good for me. This is very important because I can use this style as an advantage in derby themes that require designs to be more cartoony or cutesy, an area I don’t dominate. This was the case this week when the theme asked for a character design, specifically, “Breakfast Mascots”.
I had to choose a breakfast item to start with my design so I went with coffee, the only thing I have for breakfast almost every day. I’m not exactly a morning person, I’m more of a night owl, so I decided to merge the coffee idea with an owl. The problem is that owls represent night, not morning. That’s why I came up with the idea to design an over-caffeinated owl. One that didn’t sleep all night and it’s still awake thanks to all the coffee he’ve had. I added details like the twitching eye, the trembling lines and even the font I used is hand made to simulate the effects of being awake for so many hours.
