In my most recent design I used the art style Art Deco as a starting point, and combined it with a concept based on the old internet connection, the Dial-Up. I worked around the idea that the design is a propaganda poster promoting the usage of dial-up. I got inspired by the video game Bioshock, where the past and the future merge together to form a very unique style. I really love the end results.

No Half Measures

I love movies because they can tell you a whole story in just a few hours. But sometimes, I feel like I need more information and story. That’s why I sometimes get hooked with some Tv series. First, I was addicted to “Lost”. Anyone close to me would tell you that I absolutely loved that show. Now I have a new addiction, “BREAKING BAD”. The right amount of drama, violence and dark comedy. I can’t wait for the new season to start.

That is why I used it as a reference to design my shirt for this week’s theme Crests and Heraldry. It’s an ode to the show. Hope you like it and vote for it!

I always try to challenge myself when designing shirts. And this week’s theme, “Beauty Within”, was a good opportunity to try something different. I wanted to design something with a hidden message and humor, but at the same time very wearable. I came up with a concept referring Zombies (specifically the movie Zombieland), but without adding a dead character, brains or human remains. I wanted people to look at the design and realized what the reference was, without being too direct with the elements used.

After submitting my design, it became very popular, very quickly. It had a lot of supporters… but a lot of haters as well. Not everyone understood the message behind my design. Too bad, because a lot of people did, and helped my design reach the top. After more than two days on The Fog, it was rejected by Woot :( I guess sometimes a few drops of water can produce a storm… But fear not! I made some changes to the design and re-submitted it. I think it’s a little bit more “socially acceptable” now. Hope you like it!

Chapter 5: The Hatching

- I don’t know how it all started, but those… those… things… weren’t there 3 Earth days ago when the Eclipse started. Then, one day after, I heard a buzzing sound inside them, but that wasn’t as scary as the low growl and the movement that I noticed a couple of hours ago… -

The Origami Battle (un)folds

I love when Shirt.Woot comes up with challenging themes like the one they choose for this week, “Tromp l’oeil”. I’ve never heard the term prior the announcement of the derby, so I had to do a lot of research. This is the definition available on Wikipedia: “Trompe l’oeil, (French for deceive the eye, is an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects appear in three dimensions.” So basically, my design had to look like it was coming out of the shirt.

I started searching for inspiration in the usual places like Google and my favorite, Etsy. But it was very difficult finding ideas for a theme like this. After a few hours (I don’t remember how) I came across some pictures of Origamis. One idea led to the other and I finished with a Star Wars design. I know its has been done till dead, but I don’t think I am forcing it. It really creates the 3d illusion the technique requires.
