Face To Face

I’ve done today something I haven’t done in a while, submit a design within an hour and a half after the derby opened for submissions. This was possible because I had a very strong concept since the beginning. When I first thought of the concept, I immediately knew I had to “construct” the real deal. So I went to my nearest Walgreen’s and bought two cans of Chef-Boyardee’s (spaghetti, my favorite) and a pair of black show laces. After an hour, I had my can phone assembled. I placed it on top of a mini dinning table and started moving it here and there. Then, I took a picture of the best composition and decided to use it for my design. Since the concept appeared in my head, I knew I wanted to tied it somehow to social networks and / or Facebook. So I did.

My design is a critique to modern society and how people are less interactive and personal with each other while using all these gadgets that “help” them socialize. I am a victim as well in this whole networking mess. I’ve found that, lately, I prefer being by myself than socializing in person with other people. The design aims to remind me and others that we need to go back to the basics in some areas and be less dependent on modern “commodities”. Hope you like it!

Update (10/25/11): Rejected: Off Topic. This is so frustrating. My design was doing so good this week, even made it to The Fog. But for reasons that I can’t quite understand, Woot decided to reject it…
