Winter is Coming!

It’s been more than a month since my last submission (not counting the two Honorable Mentions that competed in the Double-Take Down Derby 15). I was pretty sure that, if I didn’t designed something soon, I could fall behind in the derbies. Or even worse, loose some interest in competing. And I didn’t want that to happen, I have too much fun participating in them.

The theme this week is Winter (“Winter Redux” is the official title). A little bit complicated for someone that lives on a tropical island like me. And even though I’ve travel to cold places, I’ve never seen snow in my life. Yeah I know, sad story. So I did my research and decided to submit something a little bit different this time. I was inspired by a photo taken from a forest floor looking up, but what caught my attention was all the negative space created by the trees silhouettes. For some reason, I immediately saw a snowflake between them and that is how my concept was born. Every bit of the design was made directly on Photoshop, with no illustrations or sketches, due to the painting style of the design. I used a lot of halftones this time, because apparently, I am very good at it ๐Ÿ™‚ Hey, I am just quoting people who liked the design.

Update (12/25/11): +646 votes / 6th place. I couldn’t ask for a better Christmas present. Thanks to everyone that made it possible for my design to be on the Fog and make it this far. It was quite a journey!

    • Hi Chickipu! We’ll have a second chance to get it printed by Woot. This design received an Honorable Mention and it will compete once again in the next Double Take, sometime in April I believe. Please stay tuned to Woot and vote again ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll try to make a Wallpaper version, and I’ll let you know when I post it so you can download it! Thanks for your comment and support!
